Detectives are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a nine year old boy was assaulted and robbed by a group of teenagers in Addison Howard Park, Kempston, on Sunday night

The robbery took place at around 8pm as the youngster – who was with his two sisters aged seven and eleven – were in the play area of the park. The victim was approached by three hooded teenagers who punched him several times in the face before taking a mobile phone that he was carrying. The three offenders then all got onto a blue coloured moped and sped away across the park towards the parade of shops which includes Tesco Metro and KFC in Bedford Road.

The victim was left with facial injuries as a result of the attack.

Detective Constable Surinder Ram, who is investigating the assault and robbery, is keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and may have witnessed the attack or may have seen the offenders on the moped soon afterwards.

DC Ram said: “This was an utterly despicable attack on a young boy who was out enjoying the evening sunshine with his two sisters in the park. He was subjected to a violent and intimidating attack by these offenders and it is imperative that we find out who they are as quickly as possible. Addison Howard Park would have been quite busy on Sunday evening with people enjoying the great weather and visiting the funfair that is situated on the junction of Hillgrounds and Bedford Road. I would urge anyone with information – no matter how small or insignificant it may seem - to come forward and speak with us.”

The offenders were all black teenagers aged between 14 and 16. One wore black tracksuit bottoms, Adidas trainers and gloves while two had scarves covering their faces.
