Bedford Attack Leaves Man Unconscious & Fitting

A man walking with his heavily pregnant girlfriend in Bedford's been beaten up so badly - he fell to the ground - unconscious and fitting.

Detectives are looking for any witnesses when the 27 year-old was knocked unconscious in recreation land off Moor Lane, Bedford.

He was walking with his heavily pregnant girlfriend on the old Abbey School site at about 5.45pm on Wednesday (30 July) when he was chased by a group of up to about five young men.

When they caught up with him, two of them physically attacked him and he fell to the floor, losing consciousness and going into a fit. The group then ran off.

The victim was taken to hospital and was kept in overnight.

Fortunately, his injuries turned out to be relatively minor, although he has nasty cuts and bruising to his face. His girlfriend was not injured in the incident.

The group of described as in their late teens, some white, some black and others mixed race.

Three men have since been arrested, but investigating officer Det Con Ian Johnson of Greyfriars CID would like to hear from anyone who was in the park at the time of the offence, who may have seen what lead up to this incident.

DC Johnson said: "We have made some arrests but obviously there were a number of people involved in the initial incident. I do want to hear from independent witnesses even if you believe your information is not significant - please don't assume that we have all the information that we need or leave it to someone else to contact us."
