Theft Of Catalytic Convertors

7 April 2011, 16:12

Police in the north of the county are warning motorists to be aware of vehicle catalytic converter thefts, following a number of recent incidents.

During the last few weeks, a total of 25 converters have been reported as stolen - 13 in Kettering, eight in Corby and four in Wellingborough.

Most vulnerable are 4x4 vehicles such as Land Rovers, where offenders can access the converter more easily.

But thefts have been from all types of vehicles and police want members of the public to be increasingly vigilant around public car parks and to report any suspicious activity.

Police are investigating these thefts as part of Operation Guardian, the countywide operation dedicated to serious acquisitive crime - robbery, burglary and vehicle crime.

Witnesses to this incident, or anyone with information, should call Northamptonshire Police on 03000 111 222 - alternatively, information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
