Police and firefighters carried out a dramatic rescue of a young woman who had climbed on top of a dome on a walkway over a busy town centre road this morning.

The woman scrambled over railings on the footpath over the Telford Way roundabout in Luton, Beds during the rush hour today.

She climbed to the top of the dome, where she curled up in a ball.

The road was closed while Bedfordshire police officers talked to the young woman.

A fire brigade cherry picker was sent up to rescue her and she was taken to hospital by ambulance.
