A 27 year-old man was given an eight year custodial sentence today at Northampton Crown Court.
Daniel Philip Joseph Munn, previously from Grendon in Northants - plead guilty to GBH Section 18 with intent following an assault on his partner in August 2014.
Detective Constable James Wright led the investigation said: "The sentence is the culmination of great team work by officers from Northamptonshire Police Domestic Abuse Unit who worked tirelessly to locate the suspect and arrest him following the horrific assault that took place against an extremely vulnerable victim.
The attack itself was by all accounts a premeditated one with the defendant travelling from Essex armed with a hammer, it is believed with the sole intention of causing serious harm to his ex-partner.
Not only is the defendant now serving a suitable sentence, but the victim can rebuild her life and put this horrific event behind."
