A 23 year old man has been attacked and assaulted by three men – one armed with a hammer - in Luton on Thursday evening.

It happened at around 5.40pm as the victim returned to his home address in Maryport Road, Luton. The victim had just parked his car when he was attacked by three men and punched several times to the face. One of the offenders then struck the man across the head and face with a hammer before taking his mobile phone and fleeing in what was thought to have been a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

The victim made his way into his home and called the Emergency Services. He was taken to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

Detective Inspector Sean Quinn, who is investigating the incident, is keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the assault taking place.

DI Quinn said: "This was a horrendous attack which has left the victim with some nasty facial injuries and bruising across his body. Amazingly he did not suffer any broken bones, but it is clear that his attackers were trying to cause as much harm as possible and must be found as quickly as possible. I would urge anyone who was in Maryport Road yesterday evening and may have witnessed the attack to get in touch with us as quickly as possible. Even the smallest piece of information could help us catch these offenders."

The three offenders were described as being Asian males – possibly of Pakistani origin – all aged in their 20s.
