Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a robbery in Leighton Buzzard.

It happened around 5.30pm on Sunday, February 20, at the Post Office in Stanbridge Road when a masked offender approached the counter and demanded cash.

He gave the male cashier the impression he had a concealed weapon and, fearing for his safety, he handed over cash from the till.

The offender, and an accomplice who was waiting by the door, fled out of the shop and down a nearby alley that leads to Garden Leys.

PC Barry Kerry, of the divisional Robbery Squad, said the offender was white, about 17-years-old, slim and wore dark jeans and a dark hoodie.

He said: “This was an extremely frightening experience for the victim and we are keen to speak to anyone who saw the offenders hanging around the shop or running from it. Among those who may be able to help are motorists or pedestrians using Stanbridge Road, which is a main route into the town centre, or anyone who saw the offenders exiting the alley and perhaps getting into a vehicle.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Kerr, in confidence, on 01234 842637, the main switchboard on 01234 841212, text to 07786 200011 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
