Police are warning people to guard against rogue traders after an elderly couple were tricked out of a thousand pounds in Corby.

Two men claiming to be builders called at the home of the couple, in Rannoch Way at half past two on Thursday afternoon.

They told the couple their roof was in need of urgent repair. The men removed cladding from the side of the roof and then told the couple they could fix it.

The couple handed over a thousand pounds as a down payment.

The two men then claimed they were going to get supplies from a builders' merchant before driving off, but did not return as promised.

The offenders are described as two white men with London accents. One was aged 40 to  45, about 6ft tall with a slim build. The other was aged 30 to  40, about 5ft 6in tall with a heavy build.
