Operation Dynamo: Dover Castle

A major new experience at Dover Castle will take you back to one of World War II’s most famous events – the evacuation of Dunkirk in May 1940.

Operation Dynamo: Rescue from Dunkirk will immerse you in the tension and drama, in the very tunnels where the desperate rescue operation was masterminded.

State-of-the-art effects combined with testimonies from veterans and news-reel footage bring to life the dramatic events.

Dover CastleAs Spitfires screech overhead and booming anti-aircraft fire fills the air, visitors get a sense of the danger and urgency of the evacuation.

An unmissable part of the Dover Castle experience, guests will also see some of the original Army HQ rooms dressed as they would have been, including the Gun Operations Room and Telephone Exchange.

A new exhibition – Wartime Tunnels Uncovered – also shares real stories from  Dunkirk and children can get dressed up in child-sized army uniforms. Start your journey back to 1940 with the dramatic photo gallery below.

We sent Heart Breakfast's James & Charlie to experience the new attraction, watch their video below as they travel back to 1940!

Dover CastleAlso housed within the tunnels complex is the atmospheric Underground Hospital, including the operating theatre that tended to troops throughout the war – a great way to round off a visit.
