Gillingham Death Is Murder Enquiry
A man who was stabbed in the early hours of New Year's Day has died in hospital, prompting police to launch a murder inquiry.
Officers were called to Windmill Road in Gillingham, Kent, at about 2.50am on January 1 following reports of a stabbing.
A 28-year-old man was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital and he died on Saturday, according to Kent Police.
Two men have appeared in court charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the attack, and police are to review the charges.
A Kent Police spokesman said: "This is now a murder investigation being carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
"Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident and there are two men charged with offences relating to this incident.
"A post-mortem will be carried out later this week and discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service will then take place in relation to these charges.''
