Sittingbourne Murder Investigation

A man has been charged with murdering a 21-year-old following a confrontation just hours into the New Year.

Jurijs Popovs, 47, is accused of killing Dmitrijs Titovs who suffered a suspected stab wound outside a block of flats.

Officers were called to a disturbance at the block in Henley Place, London Road, Sittingbourne, Kent, at 1.30am on New Year's Day and the incident was resolved.

But half an hour later police were called to the same place again following a report a man was lying injured outside the flats.

Mr Titovs, from Sittingbourne, was taken to the Medway Maritime Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Popovs, of Teynham, will appear at Maidstone Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

Kent Police said that two other men who were also arrested on suspicion of murder have been released without charge.
