West Kent College is open again today (Tuesday) after being closed yesterday following a fire over the weekend.

An electrician had to be taken to a specialist burns unit by helicopter after the fire at the new multi-million pound Brook Street Campus in Tonbridge.

His colleague was treated at the Kent and Sussex hospital after pulling him from the fire.

The college was closed to 3,000 students and 600 staff yesterday while an investigation into the fire got underway.

The workmen were from a company called NG Bailey, a spokesman for the firm said: "Our thoughts are with our site operator, and his family at this difficult time. NG Bailey is cooperating fully with the HSE as they investigate the cause of the incident and will release more information as we are able to."
