A man's been charged over a smash and grab robbery in The City that saw a police officer threatened with a machete.
A gang armed with sledgehammers smashed their way into a jeweller's on Liverpool Street on Thursday 22 January 2015.
Officers from City Police arrived to find two men on mopeds and a third, who had failed to get on one of the mopeds as a passenger, was grabbed by a member of the public who was subsequently threatened with a machete.
A police officer confronted the man and was then also threatened with the weapon before the man fled the scene.
A man was later arrested was subsequently charged with conspiracy to rob and threatening a person with a knife or bladed article in a public place. He was remanded in custody.
Police said they were looking for two other men who escaped the scene on mopeds.
City of London Police Detective Inspector, Edelle Michaels said, “We would like to appeal to anyone with information, video footage or photos to get in touch by calling 020 7601 2222 or 101. Even the smallest piece of evidence could help us find the two outstanding suspects.
"It is also important to remember that the City continues to be a very safe place to live, work and play with one of the lowest crime rates in the country and yesterdays incident was a very rare occurrence.”
