There are claims travellers using pay-as-you-go Oyster cards could end up paying much more to use the tube and trains this summer because of the crowds expected during the Olympics.

If Transport for London have to leave barriers open to cope with the increased volume of passengers, London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon says many Oyster users will be unable to swipe their cards and will be charged the maximum fare, of £6.50, automatically.

TfL have denied it will make any difference.
