Figures released by the owner of Heathrow Airport have shed some light on the extent of delays at passport control.

BAA claim target times for getting non-EU passengers through immigration weren't met.

They say a quarter of non-EU passengers arriving at Terminal 5 throughout April had to wait longer than the 45-minute standard time to pass through border control.

The worst wait was on 30th April when there was a 3 hour queue at Terminal 4.

But the targets were met for UK and other EU passport holders.

The Home Secretary has assured Britain's airline and travel industry that immediate action will be taken to tackle the problem.
