Firefighters Vote for Strike Action

Firefighters in London have voted by more than three to one to go on strike in a row about new contracts.

The Fire Brigades Union has given London Fire Brigade until tomorrow to withdraw letters it said effectively sacked firefighters, to be re-employed on worse terms, or strike dates will be announced.

The Chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, Brian Coleman, said the strike announcement was disappointing and saddening.

He said the only losers in all of this will be firefighters.

London's Fire Commissioner said contingency plans will now move forward to ensure London is protected during any period of strike action.
