Scottish actor James McAvoy is taking on the role of the country's most famous theatrical monarch after announcing he will appear in a new production of Macbeth.
The award-winning actor, famous for roles in films such as X-Men and Atonement, will play the title character of Shakespeare's Scottish play on stage at the Trafalgar Studios in Whitehall next year.
Director Jamie Lloyd says it will be one of a season of "politically-charged power plays on the doorstep of Whitehall".
James McAvoy was last on stage in 2009 in Three Days Of Rain which was also directed by Lloyd.
