The man in charge of the Met Police has told Heart London was days away from a terror attack similar to the seige at a cafe in Sydney.
Sir Bernard Hogan Howe says five terror plots in London have been foiled over the last four months.
He has asked the Government for an extra £50 million in funding to help deal with the threat of terrorism.
Mr Bernard said: "There are people out there who are dangerous and that's why we keep arresting them because we need to stop them hurting people.
"They've been very close to going and hurting someone badly or killing them. They are a threat."
When asked if they were weeks away from carrying out an attack, he stated: "You could argue much closer. I'm acknowledging days. Very very close."
