A man who was hit by a falling telegraph pole last night is fighting for his life in hospital, police said.
The man, 27, suffered head injuries and a cardiac arrest after being hit by the falling pole in Spanish Road, Wandsworth, south-west London, at around 6.50pm last night.
The pole is thought to have fallen due to last night's strong winds.
He was resuscitated by ambulance crews and taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he remains in a critical condition, Scotland Yard said.
Police said next of kin have been informed and the incident was being investigated.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:
"We were called last night just before 6.52pm to reports of a telegraph pole fallen on a man at Spanish Road, Wandsworth.
"We sent two ambulance crews and a single responder in a car to the scene, with the first of our crews arriving in just over three minutes.
"Staff resuscitated one patient, who had suffered a cardiac arrest. He was also treated for a head injury before being taken as a priority in a serious condition to the major trauma centre at St George's Hospital, Tooting."
