Police Remove Teenager From Plane At Heathrow
It's emerged a 15 year old was stopped by officers on a plane at Heathrow just moments before take off earlier this month - because it was thought she was going to join Islamist extremists in Syria.
The teenager from east London was travelling to Turkey earlier this month, and it is understood she had bought a ticket to Istanbul without her parents' knowledge.
It's believed she was stopped by officers just moments before the jet was due to take off.
The teenager from Tower Hamlets had been reported missing.
The head of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, said: "We've seen people between the age of 16 and 18 trying to fly out to Syria, and we've seen a change in the sense that we've seen more girls and women going."
Elsewhere today, a 20-year-old studying in London was found guilty of planning to join fighters in Syria.
The Old Bailey heard David Souaan, who was at Birkbeck College, wanted to fly the flag of Isis over Downing Street.
