Tony Blair's cancelled a high-profile signing session of his new memoirs in Piccadilly, amid concerns over planned protests by anti-war campaigners.

The former Prime Minister was due to attend the flagship Waterstone's store on Wednesday.

But he said he didn't want to subject the public to the "inevitable hassle" protests would cause or use up police resources keeping order at the event.

At a similar event in Dublin at the weekend there were some disturbances, where plastic bottles, shoes and eggs were thrown.
