For the first time people who aren't police officers can now apply to be a Superintendent in the Metropolitan police force.
The direct entry role is advertised as a position for a 'role model' and 'exceptional leader'.
The pay ranges from £63,000 to £74,000 plus London weighting.
The Police Superintendents' Association is concerned that the successful applicant could be compromised by their lack of operational experience.
