97 Firefighters were called to a fire in a disused warehouse in Canning Town last night.
Fifteen fire engines also attended the fire on Shipman Road.
One man was rescued from inside the building and taken to hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation.
90% of the building - which used to be a nightclub - has been damaged.
Station Manager Philip Morton, who was at the scene, said: "The fire was large and it looked dramatic when crews arrived. Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control, and crews rescued a man who was later taken to hospital by paramedics. The building was badly damaged in the blaze and fire investigators are now looking into what caused it."
