Clint Eastwood will direct the singer in musical remake

Beyoncé is to play singer Esther Hoffman in a remake of popular musical A Star Is Born, according to film industry website Deadline.

The musical has been remade several times but the most popular version was the 1976's one starring Barbara Streisand.

Veteran actor and director Clint Eastwood will direct the movie, which is slated for a 2012 release.
