Elton John to retire from writing solo pop songs

Elton John has admitted that at 63 he hasn't got what it takes to carry on writing pop songs anymore.

In an interview with GQ magazine, the star said that he can't compete with the likes of JLS and Lady Gaga and he hasn't got it in him to put out pop tunes anymore. "It was OK when I was 25 or 26, but not anymore" he said.

He is however enjoying his side project of writing with the Scissors Sisters and he will happily carry on doing that, he confirmed.
