Brighton: Police Officer Injured In Crash

A police officer was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg after the police car she was driving was involved in a collision with a van in Brighton.

The neighbourhood response team Ford Focus was responding to an emergency call to Preston Drove on Wednesday afternoon where a 45-year-old man had suffered a suspected heart attack.

The car collided with a Peugeot Expert van, and then crashed into a a tree at 4.28pm in Ditchling Road - a parked vehicle was also damaged.
 
The police officer was trapped in the car for about an hour before being released by firefighters. A male special constable travelling with her was also taken to hospital for a check up. The driver of the Peugeot van was uninjured.
 
The road was closed for more than four hours to allow rescue, investigation and recovery work.
 
The man who collapsed was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital where he was reported to be in a stable condition on Wednesday evening.
