On the evening of 28 November, 2009, Michael Starks' life changed forever after he was injured during an unprovoked attack in an East Grinstead bar.

Ja Ja Bar Assault

At around midnight the 29-year-old from Blindley Heath in Surrey was viciously hit in the face with a glass while having a quiet drink in the Ja Ja Bar in London Road.

Detectives investigating the incident are still searching for Mr Starks' attacker and three men who were seen drinking with him.

After assaulting Mr Starks the man was escorted off the premises and he disappeared.

Detective Inspector Russ Sheppard said: "Someone out there must know who these men are. Mr Starks was having a quiet drink with friends when he was assaulted.

"This was a nasty unprovoked attack which has mentally and physically scarred him for life. If you know who did this, or witnessed the attack and have not yet spoken to police I urge you to come forward so that we can help catch this man before he does it to someone else."

Mr Starks, a builder, has been left with severe injuries, and a year later he is still receiving treatment following the attack.

Sussex Police would like to hear from anyone who may be able to identify any of the men shown in the CCTV still. They would also like to hear from a man who escorted the offender out of the bar shortly after he attacked Mr Starks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 4 of 29/11 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
