Rare otters born in Ellesmere Port

A pair of extremely rare white otters have been born at the Blue Planet Aquarium.

It's thought the pair are the white otters first to be born in captivity in the UK!

The white Asian short claw otters were born at the Blue Planet Aquarium, they're usually dark brown- but a rare condition means their fur develops without its natural pigment and they come out white!

Exhibits Manager Tom Cornwell said: “Otter cubs can remain inside the holt for anything up to the first six or seven weeks of their lives. They’re born blind and are completely reliant on their parents to look after them.

“Normally the cubs – like their parents – are dark brown in colour so it came as a major surprise to see these two tiny white cubs running around!
