Fire causes chaos for Chester commuters

Sixty people were evacuated from their homes and commuters faced travel chaos after a huge fire in an office building near Chester on Thursday morning.

The blaze at Chester Enterprise Centre meant the fire service were forced to close Chester Railway Station until around 08.00.

Emergency services initially urged local residents to keep doors and windows closed as plumes of smoke hung in the air near the Station.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue service now says it is confident the smoke isn't dangerous.

Steve Barnes from the Fire Service said:

"Residents were evacuated to a local church on Hoole Road.

"No casualties have been reported and we don't expect any casualties from this point onwards."

Chester Enterprise Centre has 99 office blocks and is operated by Cheshire West and Chester Council.
