Soldier cleared of sexual assault

A Welsh soldier has been cleared of a serious sexual assault on a sleeping woman at a flat in Rhyl.

Andrew Lindsey, 24, is a Royal Welch Fusilier at the Dale Barracks in Chester was jailed for seven days after arriving late to the start of his trial on Monday 19 July.

A jury at Mold Crown Court heard how the complainant had told defendant Andrew Lindsey that she was gay.

But she woke up at a flat in the resort to find the defendant having sex with her, she told the jury.
Lindsay said that she was awake throughout, was flirtatious and stroking him, and that they had intercourse with her consent.

After a short retirement the jury of ten men and two women returned and found Lindsey of Pontypridd not guilty.
