Man Arrested After Teenage Girl Knocked Down By Car In Birmingham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after a 15-year-old girl was knocked down crossing the road in Birmingham.

The girl remains in a critical condition in hospital with serious injuries following the incident in Leominster Road in Sparkhill on Thursday, West Midlands Police said.

An air ambulance was called to the scene after the collision happened just before 5pm, West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said.

The driver of the car, a Ford Fiesta, stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of driving dangerously and driving over the limit for drugs.

A 23-year-old man has since been released while investigations continue, according to police.

The ambulance service said paramedics arrived to find the girl in a serious condition.

A WMAS spokesman said: "Ambulance staff worked to carefully assess and administer specialist trauma care to the girl before she was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Birmingham Children's Hospital where, upon arrival, her condition was described as critical."

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the serious collision investigation unit, said: "A teenager has suffered some serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dash-cam footage and hasn't already spoken to us to make contact."
