Man held over Toxteth stabbing

A man arrested on suspicion of the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

The 28-year-old man was arrested on Friday on suspicion of the murder of Hassan Ahmed Mohamoud, who was stabbed in the street in Toxteth, Liverpool, on Thursday afternoon.

A post-mortem showed Mr Mohamoud died from a single stab wound, police said.

Emergency services were called to Bentley Road in Toxteth at 1.20pm on Thursday after reports of the stabbing.

The victim, who was stabbed in the neck, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

On Monday, Merseyside Police confirmed the arrested man had been detained under the Mental Health Act.
