Reward of up to £10,000 offered year after fatal shooting of Glasgow father

A reward of up to £10,000 is on offer for information a year on from the fatal shooting of a father in Glasgow.

Kenny Reilly was sitting in the passenger seat of a silver BMW with his partner at the junction of Maryhill Road and Bilsland Drive on April 16, 2018.

A black Ford S-Max pulled up and a passenger wearing a black balaclava got out of the car and shot the 29-year-old.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and died two days later after being taken off life support.

Crimestoppers is now offering the reward for information received which leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Detective Inspector Alan McAlpine confirmed the victim had been known to police and several people had been arrested, interviewed and released during their inquiries so far.

He said: "The appeal (response) from the public so far hasn't been great, hasn't been bad.

"We have had a number of people that have contacted us, however potentially some people may be motivated by a financial reward. If that's something that they decide they need to contact us.

"He was known to the police... his background and his lifestyle is something we're looking into in one of a number of lines of inquiry we're following.

"He was a young, 20-something guy that enjoyed his life. Clearly he didn't deserve to get what came to him.

"There are a number of people from certain communities who may have some kind of mistrust of the police but what they have to realise is we have been working on this inquiry since the very start.

"We've got a really dedicated, committed and tenacious inquiry team that all want to get a resolution for Kenny's family."

The Ford involved in the shooting was found burnt out in Craigieburn Gardens, Maryhill, shortly after while police recovered another vehicle thought to be involved.

A blue Volkswagen (VW) Polo, bearing the false registration RE57 EUU, was seen in the area of Mr Reilly's home on Maryhill Road and driving towards Craigieburn Gardens before the incident.

It was also seen after the shooting driving towards Glasgow city centre and recovered a day later at New Lairdsland Road, Kirkintilloch, with attempts made to set it alight.

Both cars had been reported as stolen, something DI McAlpine said was unusual in the case.

He added: "CCTV forms a big part of our investigation and we have footage of both the black S-Max and blue VW Polo that appear to have been travelling in convoy at certain points in the evening before the murder took place.

"The black S-Max was found burnt out a mile-and-a-half from (Bilsland Road) five minutes after the murder.

"The blue VW Polo was also stolen and attempts were made to burn that car out 24 hours later in Kirkintilloch.

"It's a natural stop that they've come to with a red light. Whether or not it was planned is something we're looking at.

"Could it have been by design here? It could have been - but we know where he was going, we know when he left his house and if it is something more sinister then it would probably suggest that further involvement or knowledge was known."
