West Midlands Police are questioning a 19 year old on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was shot in the stomach.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting in a barber shop.

The 19-year-old was detained after an incident inside a hairdressers in Wolverhampton Road, Birchills, Walsall, just after 5pm, on Sunday, West Midlands Police said.

A 23-year-old victim was first assaulted inside the barber shop and then suffered a stomach injury after being blasted with what is thought to have been a shotgun.

Officers want to hear from drivers who may have dashcam footage from the area at that time, and may also have captured a suspected getaway car, believed to be a black BMW X1.

The car was later traced and found burnt out.

Meanwhile, the victim remains in hospital in a critical condition, police added.

Detective Inspector Chris Fox said: "A man has been left seriously injured and we are working round the clock to establish the reasons behind this shooting.

"This arrest is a significant development but we still need to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, and not already spoken to officers, to come forward."
