A man's been extradited from Italy on suspicion of assaulting Liverpool fan Sean Cox.

He suffered a brain injury outside Anfield ahead of the Champions League match between Liverpool and Roma at Anfield in April.

Mr Cox had travelled from his home in Ireland for the match and spent several months being treated on Merseyside before he was able to travel home.

Merseyside Police have confirmed 30-year-old Simone Mastrelli from Rome who was arrested on a European Arrest Warrant in the city was returned to England yesterday.

He has been charged with Section 20 assault and violent disorder.

In October last year Roma supporter Filippo Lombardi was cleared of inflicting grievous bodily harm on Sean Cox.

The 21 year old did admit a separate charge of violent disorder and was jailed for 3 years.
