A teenager is being treated in hospital after he was stabbed by youths who stole his bike.

Police are appealing for information after the attack in Preston, Lancashire, at about 4.45pm on Sunday.

Three teenagers, believed to be aged between 15 and 18, chased and attacked the 17-year-old victim near B&M Bargains on Carlisle Street before stealing his bicycle, a Lancashire Police spokesman said.

He sustained stab wounds to his back and was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital by air ambulance.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Inspector Chris Walsh said: "We think this was a targeted attack and that both the attackers and victim are known to each other.

"We have a number of officers working on tracing the offenders and arresting them.

"We know they have made off towards Church Street and the Avenham area following the incident."
