Officers searching for missing 33-year-old Ashley Atkins in the River Severn in Shrewsbury have found a body.

A man's body was recovered from the water on Wednesday (17th April).

Formal identification has not yet taken place.

Mr Atkins' next of kin have been informed and they have asked that their privacy be respected.

Police divers had been searching the Frankwell Quay area of the River Severn for most of the day - that's after a car was found in the water.

Speaking earlier - Chief Superintendent for the Shropshire and Telford policing area, Kevin Purcell said: "Officers came across a vehicle in the river at around 2am (on Tuesday). We believe it may be linked to a vehicle seen acting suspiciously in the area shortly before.

"With the help of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service we searched the river and the river bank area where the car was found."
