Man injured in 'large-scale' fight in Tintagel

A man has been taken to hospital after being hit by a vehicle and attacked in Tintagel.

Police say they had reports of a big fight between two groups in Atlantic Road on Tuesday.

Police were called at 9.15pm on Tuesday 14 May to a report of a large-scale fight between two groups of people in Atlantic Road, Tintagel.

It was reported that one man had been struck by a vehicle and had sustained injuries.

Local units, firearms officers, the police helicopter and dog unit attended along with ambulance.

A 40-year-old man, from Launceston, sustained multiple cuts and bruises after being struck by a vehicle a number of times. He was also assaulted by three male offenders - kicked and punched and hit with a wooden bat, a metal pole and wooden baton. He was taken to Derriford Hospital.

The front and rear windscreens of his own vehicle were also smashed.

Five other people also sustained injuries in the altercation. Two women aged 40 and 22, from Launceston, two men aged 20 from Launceston and a 30-year-old man from Egloskerry. All minor injuries. Four of them were taken to Derriford Hospital.

Police carried out an area search for three male suspects.

A 40-year-old man from Tintagel was arrested on suspicion of assault GBH with intent, affray and causing criminal damage to property. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
