Travelodge is planning to open 17 new hotels this year, including two in Kent, creating more than 350 jobs.

Around £115 million will be invested in the expansion programme which will boost the company's hotel network to 595 locations in the UK, Spain and Ireland.

This expansion includes the company’s first hotel in Rochester and another first in Sittingbourne.

Rochester Riverside Travelodge represents an investment of £7 million for third party investors and will create 25 new jobs within the community. The 81-room hotel, featuring a Bar Café, is the company’s 15th hotel in Kent.

Sittingbourne Travelodge represents an investment of £6 million for third party investors and will create 20 new jobs within the community. The 63-room hotel is located at Spring Square in Station Street.

The other Travelodge hotels expected to open in 2019 will be in: Bury St Edmunds, Chippenham, Edinburgh Park, Glasgow, Gosport High Street, Letchworth Garden City, Liverpool Edge Lane, London Dagenham East, London Beckton North Circular, Marlow, Rhyl, Solihull, Swindon West, Walsall and Winchester.

Peter Gowers, Travelodge's chief executive, said: "Despite the uncertainty facing the UK, the long-term prospects for low-cost hotels remain strong.

"The next phase of our expansion plan will see us deliver more choice in more places than ever before.

"Britain's travellers are changing. We expect more and increasingly we travel to a wider range of places. More and more of us are working away from home during the week, and we're taking more long weekends."
