A police officer has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash on the A38 in Somerset.
He was driving a marked police car when he crashed on Bristol Road in Rooks Bridge at 1:34am this morning.
The officer was trapped inside and had to be freed by firefighters.
Caroline Peters, Head of Tri-Force Specialist Operations, said: "Our thoughts are with our officer and his family and we're supporting them and our colleagues through this difficult time."
Two police dogs were also in the car at the time and were taken to a vet. They were checked and haven't been hurt.
The A38 was closed between Tarnock Garage and Chapel Road for several hours but has now reopened.
