A man from Birmingham has been jailed for stabbing his colleague and father-of-two, Bile Mohammed Siyad in November last year.
Abdul Khaya and Mr Siyad - who worked together at a delivery warehouse - had a falling out over a small sum of money earlier that week.
After finishing work in the early hours of Saturday 3 November, Bile was dropped off at the junction of Wordsworth Road and Coventry Road, Small Heath. It was here that Khaya approached him and began shouting and demanding money.
Khaya then pulled out a knife and stabbed Bile in the head.
Members of the public rushed to help and called an ambulance but he later died in hospital.
A post mortem result confirmed that Bile died from a single stab wound to the head, causing a catastrophic brain injury.
Shortly after the attack, 42-year-old Khaya booked a coach journey for the following day in an attempt to flee – however at the last minute he had a change of heart and handed himself in to Stechford Police Station where he was arrested for murder.
Khaya of Bankes Road pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison - where he will serve a minimum term of 22 and a half years.
Bile’s family paid tribute to him at the time of his death saying, “Bile was a wonderful man, loved by his family and especially his two children; he was hard-working and well-respected in the community. His loss has devastated all who knew him."
DS Neal Hudson, from Force CID said: “This was a senseless and vicious attack over a small amount of money.
“It has left a family devastated and two children who will now grow up without their father.
“We acknowledge that Khaya did the right thing by handing himself in and will now serve many years behind bars.
“Although this outcome will never bring their loved one back, we hope it provides some comfort to Bile’s family.”
