Detectives investigating the murder of Hazrat Umar in Birmingham have arrested another teenager – the third person to be quizzed over the 18-year-old’s killing.
The 16-year-old was detained and is currently in West Midlands Police custody.
It’s alleged the boy was involved in a disorder at around 2pm on 25 February in Norwood Road, Bordesley Green, which ended with 18-year-old Hazrat suffering a fatal stab wound.
A 16-year-old boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - has already been charged by West Midlands Police with Hazrat’s murder; he’s been remanded into a young offenders institute while the case progresses through court.
Another 16-year-old from Birmingham - who was arrested on 6 March - was initially bailed but has since been released without charge.
Detective Inspector Michelle Allen from the force’s Homicide Team, said: “There is a lot of work going on to get to the bottom of what happened and to identify the people responsible for Hazrat’s death.
“My team continue to trawl through a significant amount of CCTV material from the night and I would ask that anyone with information about what happened, and has not yet contacted us, to please get in touch urgently.
“If anyone has suspicions about who may have been involved, perhaps they’re overhead someone talking about what happened, they can speak to us in confidence or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
“My thoughts remain with Hazrat’s family who are devastated by this senseless act…we’re doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”
