The Strictly Come Dancing star suffered a collapse due to his "intense" rehearsals ahead of last Saturday's show.

Danny John-Jules revealed he collapsed during rehearsals at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire just hours before receiving the first 10 from the judges on Strictly Come Dancing last week.

The Red Dwarf actor made the confession when he appeared alongside professional dancer Amy Dowden on Strictly's spin-off It Takes Two.

He said: "It's cardio, fitness. I haven't moved like that since a long time. You worry about slowing down and if you slow down it's a bit of a no-no.

"I did collapse after the second run, the tech run on Friday." The floor manager looked down at me looking up at the ceiling and asked me: 'Do you want to do another one?"

The 58-year-old wowed with an energetic jive to Flip, Flop And Fly by Ellis Hall in which he received a standing ovation from the audience and all the judges, apart from Craig Revel-Horwood.

Danny and Amy were sent to the top of the leader board after they were scored a 37 out of a possible 40, after being scored the first ever 10.

He said: "It was all a blur. When I finished, I looked at Amy and only then I realised it had been good."I was still in a daze when I got to the judges and it didn't sink in until a day later when all the messages started coming in from social media."
