A £200m extension to intu Watford's shopping centre has opened today.
The expanded retail complex is anchored around a Debenham's department store which is also sporting a new brand look for the chain.
£12m has also been spent on refurbishing the rest of the shopping centre.
Some 1500 jobs have been created during the construction of the mall extension and on-going retail shops within the building.
Vicki Costello from intu Watford's told Heart:
"Our major construction contractor at one point had 500 contractors and subcontractors on site. On the retail side, Debenhams did a very large recruitment drive and we at intu have also recruited another 50 security staff now we're a super regional centre."
Tony Hurly from Debenhams Watford says the big physical stores are still a major draw, despite internet shopping telling Heart:
"It's very much about 'Destination' for Debenhams, the other stores here too, but particularly Debenhams. Online business is very important but customers still want an experience and you can't get that online"
